Dr. Palaich Heffern (or simply Dr. H), DSST: Byers High School, 10th Grade Chemistry 2017-2018

Welcome to the exciting world of Chemistry!  I am thrilled to be your instructor this year as we grow and achieve together.  The course is designed to study how the world around us really works.  The curriculum will cover a vast array of topics, and we will approach material through inquiry, developing analysis and problem solving skills whenever possible.

Some essential questions we will work to answer include:

  • How does chemistry help us decode the universe?
  • How can we learn information about things we can't see?
  • How are things so different if they are made from the same building blocks?
  • How does chemistry explain the links between the macroscopic (big) and nanoscopic (tiny) world?
